Introduction

haul ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the haul mobile application (the "App").

By using haul, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of data to provide and improve the App:

Data Linked to You

  • Email Address — Used for account creation and authentication. Collected when you sign in with Apple or Google.
  • Nutrition Data — Calorie, macronutrient, and micronutrient information derived from your grocery receipts, barcode scans, and manual food logs. This is core to the App's functionality.
  • Purchase History — Subscription status managed through Apple In-App Purchases via RevenueCat. We do not process or store payment card details.
  • User ID — A unique identifier assigned to your account for data association and authentication.
  • Product Interaction — Feature usage events (e.g., which screens you visit, which features you use) collected for analytics to improve the App. This data is first-party only and is not shared with third-party analytics providers.

Data Not Linked to You

  • Fitness Data — Steps, active calories burned, and exercise minutes read from Apple Health (HealthKit). This data is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
  • Diagnostic Data — Sanitized error logs used to identify and fix bugs. These do not contain personally identifiable information.

Data We Do Not Collect

haul does not collect any of the following:

  • Precise or coarse location
  • Financial information (payment details are handled entirely by Apple)
  • Sensitive personal information
  • Contacts or address book data
  • Browsing or search history
  • Photos or videos (the camera is used solely for receipt and barcode scanning; images are processed for text extraction and are not permanently stored)
  • Audio data
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA/IDFV)
  • Device ID for tracking purposes

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing the Service — Processing receipts, tracking nutrition, generating meal suggestions, and calculating nutrition scores.
  • Account Management — Authenticating your identity and managing your subscription.
  • AI Features — Generating personalized meal plans, grocery lists, and nutrition insights using AI models. Your nutrition data may be processed by AI services to provide these features.
  • Analytics — Understanding how the App is used to improve features and user experience. All analytics are first-party.
  • Communication — Sending account-related notifications (e.g., weekly nutrition summaries) if enabled.

Third-Party Services

haul uses the following third-party services:

  • Supabase — Our backend database provider. All user data is stored with row-level security policies ensuring users can only access their own data.
  • RevenueCat — Handles subscription purchase validation and management. Receives purchase history linked to your user ID.
  • Apple Sign-In — OAuth authentication. We receive only your email address (or a relay address if you choose to hide it) and a unique identifier.
  • Google Sign-In — OAuth authentication. We receive only your email address and a unique identifier. No data is retained beyond the initial authentication token exchange.
  • Food Databases — We query USDA FoodData Central, OpenFoodFacts, and FatSecret to retrieve nutritional information for food items. No personal data is sent to these services.
  • AI Services — We use AI models to process receipt images, generate meal suggestions, and provide nutrition insights. Food-related data may be sent to AI providers for processing.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Data is shared only with the third-party service providers listed above, solely to operate the App.

Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (via Profile > Delete Account in the App or by contacting us), all your data is permanently deleted within 48 hours, including:

  • Your user profile and preferences
  • All food logs, nutrition data, and meal history
  • Pantry inventory and grocery lists
  • Receipt images and scan history
  • Squad memberships and activity
  • Badges, challenges, and gamification progress
  • Your authentication credentials

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data through the App at any time.
  • Correct your data by editing food logs, profile information, and preferences.
  • Delete your account and all associated data at any time via the App or by contacting us.
  • Export your data by contacting us at support@gethaul.app.

Children's Privacy

haul is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@gethaul.app.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of your personal information. As stated above, we do not sell personal data. To exercise your rights, contact us at support@gethaul.app.

HealthKit Data

haul integrates with Apple HealthKit to read steps, active calories burned, exercise minutes, and weight data, and to write nutrition data (calories, macros) back to HealthKit. In accordance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines:

  • HealthKit data is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
  • HealthKit data is not used for advertising or marketing.
  • HealthKit data is processed locally on your device only.
  • You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
